Old News Posted on the Darian Encyclopedia
for the month of January, 2005
Alright, I found a suitable java web-based IRC client, with the good part being that it's 100% freeware. It's really spiffy, though hard to match with the layout. I've looked at ways to change the colors but it's really difficult, that is something I will work on later when there are less important things. You basically connect to irc.quakenet.org with a nick of Dapedia##, which you can change. You join #daria (it's a forced channel, you can't leave it) but you can join and leave as many other channels as you want. You can see the current version here. I am still working on some of the minor details, so it isn't completely fnished. :) Also, the IRC logs have been updated. Do not worry about position #1 on the list (Jellocube) since the main reason he is their is because of his trivia script that spammed continuosly, heh. That's why it says take trivia to #Daria.trivia now. In other news, there have been some really great ideas suggested to the dev team by other forumers, take a look at some of these threads to see what they've come up with! · Thoughts

Yay! The Dev Team has released some footage of actual gameplay in Dawn of Daria. You can tell the difference in graphics when comparing this to akarra (go to apedia.talonz.com and look at the screenshots) as well as many new sprites. This includes trees, a glowing crystal, a lanternish thing, and others as well. You can also notice some things haven't been completed yet such as the sound, mouse pointer, characters sprites, etc. For those who are unable to view it for whatever reason, I'll give a short summary (possibly screenshots later). Starts off in a dark dungeon with an admin and normal player and one of them equips a torch. They follow a path in a dungeon to meet a crystal about twice their size. The torch is unequipped and the room is left in a glow. A comment passes. You see the same two characters outside. They travel north, past rabbits (different sprites than akarra), past new trees that all look about the same (also different sprites from akarra), and arrive at a lanternish thing that's emmiting actual light on the ground as if it's a 3d environment. They head north, past some more trees and landscape. Another comment rolls by. It's now almost midnight. They are back at the lantern and it's quite hard to see anything outside of the lantern's radius. The two characters stand near the lantern as the preview ends. I added this to the release section. If the dawnofdaria.com is acting up for any reason, feel free to download here. I was getting 80kbps with dsl at their site, so I don't think that'll be an issue. Whichever is faster! ^^
I don't know why the shoutbox won't scroll all the way down. It has something to do with the file that the shouts are stored in. If I cleared it, it would scroll all the way down. If I spammed it, once there were three or so of the original messages left, it would scroll all the way down. I think we've just got to wait out the problem and let it fix itself, meaning once there are 17 new messages, about anyways, it'll get back to normal. For now though I've fiddled with the max shouts to display setting, and at 10 it seems to scroll all the way down. I'll keep it there for now, until we get quite a few new shouts and I can bump it back up to 15 and eventually 20. I also got rid of the i-frame resizing script and set a fixed height since I was having issues with it. It was resizing to fit the page instead of fitting the table it was in. Also updated the link to Everything Daria on the fansites page. Created a section under community for #daria.roleplay on irc.quakenet.org (contact Jellocube or Lorsaelos on the Darian Forums if you are interested in joinging one of their sessions) with this night's roleplaying session. I plan to keep track of all the sessions. Need to get the older ones, but so far so good. I also edited the colors of the scrolling bar in the comment box... And with that, goodnight! I hope everybody enjoyed their day off. Happy MLKJ Day!
Alright, got some more updates. A couple nice ones this time, too. · Got the comment box fixed for non-IE users. Now more pretty
than ever.
Finally finished the CSS of our planned mIRC logs. Origon wanted to do them, so it gave us both some things to do. I put together the css while he set up what was supposed to appear and what wasn't supposed to appear. It turned out to be quite a mess, I'm waiting for him get back online (ping timeout). I tried to make it closely match the layout as possible. The most, most difficult part was to get it to fit into the little nice layout you see on every page. Definately the most dificult. It ended up being done though. To see either version (the one inside the layout, or the raw on without the laytou) follow these two links: Completed: http://www.talonz.com/community/ircstats.php I've got a few things to work on right now as well. I need to get the links section up. I need to make the banners for the dapedia (the three standard banner/button sizes), and I need to make a few more adjustments to the comment box. Oh, and adding rip's concept art and the screenshots into appriate sections, as well as Dev Update #6. I plan to include screenshots from all the different layouts as well, by the way. Update: I decided to add the sixth dev update into the release section. It contains the dev update #6, regarding the release of the screenshot of the soon-to-be homepage. This might also go into community at a later time as a link under "Events."
Okay, finished navbar/header, turned it into php include. Therefor I changed all the file extensions to .php. So I might get a spiffeh lil shoutbox or something to put on the right, because the random item...isn't very attractive, nor useful. Finished the shoutbox. Not completely foolproof, but beware or I'll ban you from the site if you get me angry enough. Made it roughly match the layout of the site. Was a bit of a challenge for me since I'm not completely php-literate or anything but I found it easier than other ones I've done in the past. :) Added latest dev update. New one should be coming from devs tomorrow. I will work on the media section and screen sections later. Not enough time tonight. If you have any suggestions for how you would like to see the artwork and screenshots arranged, feel free to post a message through the shoutbox. Also if you have a good site for the navbar, please post a link (or a suggestion on how to organize the menus of it). Update to previous update: Moved the counter to the bottom, it looks much better now in my opinion. After fiddling with the colors and style of the counter. Added the famous copyright.
Alright! I made a few more changes. Added a blank gif file in place of the banner so you have something to click to get back to this page. Fixed a broken link on the navigation bar. Screens led to /prerelease instead of /screens. This was a pain, I need to get everything above these two boxes converted to SSI. This will make it so next time I want to change anything above these two brown boxes, I just change that file. It would have been much easier to add in the link and correct the dead link that way. Also changed the site's address to www.talonz.com. It seemd that dapedia.talonz.com wasn't working so I just said hell with it and moved it here. Not like I'm using this actual part for anything. :) Also, I added a counter. It's on the right under the riddle. I tried to make it not stand out by making it black, and right now it doesn't appear too bad. It's still at 107 from my previous unfinished talonz.com site though, but lets just say that's how many visit the dapedia had before I put the counter on it. *shrugs* So I need to get around to the SSI (lovely Lorsaelos has me calling it that now, if you havn't noticed heh) and I need to get some copyrights floating around here somewhere. Also, sometime when I'm feeling really brave I'll need to figure out how to get the top links to dropdown menus. It's not really needed now though, since you don't need the large database of items.
Woohoo, happy new years. As you can see I have made a few changes. Actually spaced out the items on the navigation bar. Look above the navigation bar and you will see that I changed the logo to an actual image. I couldn't use the old one since I wanted to slightly increase the size of the body. I think later I'm going to add a sharper bevel while eliminating the bevel from the trees. This should be rather easy to do with duplicating the beveled layer, taking bevel off the bottom later, changing fill on top layer to 0%, and adding a mask from trees on bottom one. I added and reorganized the menu, and I am currently in the process of thinking what should be where. The news link will link to all months but the current one's news. The "Read All News" button links to the currently month and the current week of news is displayed on the index. The Release button will be have organized information about what the dev team has released to the public about the future of daria. Media will be a place with downloadable goodies, such as desktops, screensavers, whatever I can get my hands on with permission to distribute. Screens has no use yet. Niether does guides or items. Community has to be my favorite part. I plan to keep track of stuff created by darian users.. This was something I had gotten around to starting with the apedia but never got to finish, seeing as akarra went down before I could get anywhere with my ideas. Community will have stuff like fan-art, stories, roleplay sessions logged, things that players want to have, well you could say published somewhere so that others can see it. Contact is going to have the standard "thanks to blah" for hosting me, submitting info, submitting guides, submitting media, submitting an addition to community section, helping me out, etc. Now that I think of it, it should probably have a new name. Oh well, that's always something to think of for later. Now the hard part is that I don't have those fancy drop-down menus because they're not worth the effort of getting them to work. However I am working on a way to create a system just as, or more efficient than what we current have. Also, link has changed from http://www.talonz.com/dapedia to http://dapedia.talonz.com/, so please update the few bookmarks you all have (I doubt there are any though). Second Update Amazingly, I finished all the links for the navbar. That was something tedious I didn't want to get done for a while, because there was no real point in it. However now you can click the link and there won't be a broken page. The only pages that have actual content though are the news, release, and contact pages. Since I made quite a few changes I think, I'll summarize them below: · Changed the header. New font and changed bevel on it. Goodnight. Shouts |
